Dr Chishty Back to Pakistan From Indian Jail Dr Khalil Chishty's family was ecstatic when they learnt of the Indian Supreme Court's decision granting him permission to visit his homeland, Pakistan. "I am thankful to Allah; our prayers have finally been answered," said Shua Javed, one of Chishty's daughters, who last met his father in 2011 in a Rajasthan jail.The 80-year-old Pakistani virologist had been released on bail from the Ajmer Jail in Rajasthan last month. In 1992 Chishty was visiting his mother in Ajmer when he was arrested following a murder during a clash between two groups on the premises of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti's shrine. He was later convicted and jailed for life for the murder. However, in January 2011, the sentence was overturned and he was granted bail three months later. However, the bail was effectively a house arrest, as Chishty was technically unable to leave his brother's house in Ajmer, as the court had confiscated his travel documents. On Thursday, Shua expressed her thanks to the media and civil society of both India and Pakistan for pushing for her father's release on humanitarian grounds.
