Almost 500 students piled into lecture hall 1-430, Sept. 8, 2010, for Peter Lee's Psychology 104 course -- the first lecture in the U of A's newest facility, the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science. The Faculty of Science Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS) -- a vibrant environment for learning and discovery. The first of its kind in Canada -- and one of just a handful around the world -- CCIS represents an interdisciplinary approach to scientific discovery that will facilitate a cross-fertilization of ideas and techniques as never before. Established scientists will interact with a new generation of world-class researchers and outstanding students, sharing sophisticated tools and state-of-the-art facilities. The signature Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design-certified building will set the stage for unique collaborations by five research groups within the Faculty, across campus, and around the world. These collaborations will involve the meeting of minds, unique technologies, and new professional training programs and degrees. The new lecture halls are open and teaching labs will provide an unprecedented learning experience for students campus-wide.
