Lao TV reports on Technical Workshop for Climate Compatible Development in Vientiane (25. May 2012)

On 24th and 25th May 2012 the second workshop under the CITYBLUES++ banner was conducted. Mainly specific technical and administrative questions were extensively discussed in this second workshop for Climate Compatible Development in Vientiane; "Integrating Sustainable Urban Drainage, Resource-Based Sanitation, Biogas and Food Security". The workshop was under the chairmanship of Mr. Keophilavanh APHAILATH, Vice governor of Vientiane Capital with the supporting attendance of 4 District governors from Chanthabury, Sikhottabong, Saysettha and Sisattanak district together with a number of key policy makers from a range of governmental departments concerned. The content of the technical and administrative workshop was the "Development of Vientiane to a clean, green and beautiful city". This mission is also included in the social and economic development plan of Vientiane. Participants had listened to experiences and lessons learned from foreign experts. Possibilities were especially discussed which have the potential to improve living conditions by recycling domestic waste produced by the city. The departments concerned paid high attention to the interesting description of modern approaches in reusing and processing domestic waste. Out of this workshop came a strong commitment from all participants to aim a successful project implementation to protect Vientiane's environment and to contribute to global environmental sustainability in the long run.
