I headed out to Sarasota on a Friday morning in early August to catch this beauty on route. Starting at around 7:30 I chased the truck all around the southern half of the city until the camera's battery ran out at around 3. This was for sure one of my favorite filming trips to date. I was very impressed with the Lodal. The massive hopper puts other MSLs to shame when it comes to efficiency, but lacks the fun to watch crushing action of a small hopper. The tipper is made by Lodal and seemed very well built. As you can see the driver does both sides of the street whenever possible. Doing so the truck is comparable in speed to an ASL. The driver needed to dump at around 11, luckily the transfer station was nearby. This may be Lodal's lighter weight FET exempt model, apparently these are marketed to haulers and municipalities who don't have a long trip to dump. Sarasota collects garbage once a week, leaving Waste Management to take care of bulk and greens with various RLs, and dual stream recycling with a shiny new Heil Recycle 2000/Mack LEU. The Recycle 2000 was a really cool truck, something I'd definitely like to go back and film, but Sarasota could easily start handling their own recycling single stream with the Lodals. That being said diversion rates weren't bad for dual stream tub collection, that being doubly impressive considering the large elderly population. The carts look pretty old, yet have held up well. I don't know much about carts in general, I'd appreciate ...
