Original slam poetry piece by Joy Binder, Enjoy! Rainbow Girl You might not have noticed this girl, I like to call her the Rainbow Girl. She has rainbow hair and rainbow eyes, Rainbow bruises and scratches And chipped rainbow nail polish. She has a whole spectrum of problems, And many go far beyond the visible sense. You see, a rainbow doesn't glisten in the limelight, It fades in the background— Soft hues are nearly camouflaged, But from what, when it's all alone: Reflected from elongated teardrops That had too much time to fall. Because when tears stream down fair skin With no one to catch them but the ground They become ingested by the earth and Soaked up by regret and self-hatred. ... I've heard there's gold at the end of every rainbow. Stormy skies and block your hues but Stormy skies can't take your gold away from you No matter how disgusting it is outside, Your gold will always glisten because Slabs of metal always have a starry glint of light after a storm, Between the navy blotches of difficult times. Because metals are always brighter in the face of rain, In the face of adversity. I know there's gold at the end of her rainbow Because somehow, some way, Some God has helped the rainbow Survive through the fiercest nights And thrive through the fiercest fights. I say "don't throw your gold away," Because no one is going to Pick up your broken pieces And return them to you. So the best course of action is to Keep your gold and love your gold and Share your gold with ...
