Moragahakanda Scheme will boost the national economy Posted on 08 June 2012. Minister Maithripala Sirisena has said that the Moragahakanda Scheme is not only for the Rajarata but to strengthen the national economy. The Minister made this reference at the inking of the agreement related to the second stage of the Moragahakanda Reservoir Project. The Minister thanked the President and Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva for the efforts made by them to make the dream of the farmers a reality. The Project is entirely for the well being of the nation. The Minister pointed out that the Moragahakanda Project is not only for the Rajarata or the East but for the entire nation and it will strengthen the national economy. The inking of the agreement related to constructions of the second stage took place with the participation of Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Maithripala Sirisena and representatives of the Sino-Hydro Corporation of China at the Mahaweli Centre today. China provides 32800 million rupees for the Scheme. The funds will be used for the building of the main dam, Sub Dam No.1 and the hydropower plant. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that usually for the launch of an irrigation scheme, an environmental report had to be prepared and views of people's representatives had to be solicited.
