SCHOHARIE -- A natural gas company wants to run a pipeline through Schoharie County and the proposal has farmers, residents and elected leads on edge. If approved, the line would run directly through hundreds of acres of prime farm land and even some residential neighborhoods. Cabot Oil and Gas is developing the Constitution Pipeline that would bring natural gas from Northern Pennsylvania to the Northeast. The 121 mile pipeline would run from Susquehanna County, PA into Broome County, through Chenango and Delaware Counties and then into Schoharie County. The proposed route would run straight through Schoharie Valley Farms. "We're looking at using natural resources that are currently available and that's a good thing if we can do it effectively and carefully but this soil is also a natural resource, this farm is a natural resource and we're making decisions here that will effect generations to come," says Richard Ball the owner of the farm. "If you give up control of a corridor through that land (farm) no matter what they say, they can now come and do whatever they want through that corridor," added Jim Barber, owner of Barber's Farm in Middleburgh which is also along the proposed route. Both farmers were devastated by the floods following Hurricanes Irene and Ike and are just back on their feet and now having to deal with the pipeline project.
