Western Scrub Jay Choosing a Peanut

A Western Scrub Jay (Aphelocoma californica) choosing between two peanuts. One shell had one kernel removed. The Jay shakes each to determine which is best. It initially tries to take both but eventually takes the one with two kernels. Taken at Groveland, California in the Sierra Nevada near Yosemite National Park.

I heard something hit our large window and looked out to see a western scrub jay killing and eating another bird, a house finch I think. I didn't know jays are killers!
