TEPCO says a thermometer at the bottom of reactor No.2 registered 74.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday night. The reading was the highest since last December, when the Japanese government declared all the reactors were in a state of cold shutdown with their temperatures kept below 100 degrees. In response, TEPCO increased the volume of cooling water by about 8 percent to 14.6 tons per hour. The temperature reading went down slightly but is still around 70 degrees. The temperature in the number 2 reactor rose more than 25 degree since late January, prompting TEPCO to increase the cooling water last Tuesday. After dropping initially, in recent days the temperature began to rise again. However, 2 other thermometers in the same reactor read 35 degrees. TEPCO is obliged under new guidelines to keep the reactors at 80 degrees or below in view of thermometers' margin of error of up to 20 degrees. The power ...
