The Coarse Dodder-laurel is a parasitic plant that twines itself all over vegetation, often to a great height. It attaches itself to host plants with small sucker-like pads called haustoria and thereby gains access to the vascular system of the host. In this case the host is a small Black Wattle Acacia mearnsii.

I heard about a nearby trail that goes through hills of mountain laurel. Bonus: I went while it was blooming!
