THEACEAE 茶科 - Camellia Azalea (Camellia changii) 杜鵑紅山茶

This rare camellia was discovered in 1984, in Guangdong, China.
At present there is no Camellia that produces flowers in Summer like this one.
There is some urgency for getting this species into cultivation as it is on the verge of extinction with only a small number of the plants still existing in the wild. Now the 800 mother plants growing in the wild in Guangdong are under intensive care.

此稀有的茶花於一九八四年在中國廣柬省被發現。杜鵑紅山茶的發現，被譽為中國「植物界的大熊貓」，受盛名之累，原生地曾經遭受濫墾濫挖的命運，由於野生種採集下山的存活率低，一度令其瀕臨滅絕的危機，目前廣東省「鵝凰嶂自然保護區」的800株「杜鵑紅山茶」母樹已受到妥善的保護。杜鵑紅山茶是現今已知唯一在炎夏開花的茶花。
