Eastern Creek Landfill Pt 1
Just after midday on a Wednesday back in July last year, I was passing through Eastern Creek while on my way to try and locate the new Veolia yard in the next suburb up north. I'd been along certain sections of this particular road before, but never passed the spot of interest in daylight. So on this Wednesday I was driving along Ferrers Rd which runs right around the eastern border of the Eastern Creek landfill. There were little gaps between some small hills and then on a particular bend, there were no obstructions and you could see all the action on the tipping face. After making this discovery all I could think was "hell yeh!" where I basically spun the car around, chose my spot, pulled the camera out and started recording some footage. On this day I only had a little battery left so I got away with 15mins of video, but after another three visits during the future I returned home one day with a total of 1 hour and 30mins footage. I always like to get an unloading video when the chance is available and this was the ultimate opportunity, which I knew would be available for a while. This facility is a key site in Sydney, taking in a good chunk of garbage from the city's western suburbs, so there were very few gaps between arrivals. I also timed my stops around that period where a lot of trucks are finished and offloading the rest of the day's work, which was a real benefit.
